Fetch is usually kept in Communications folder on the hard disk. Click twice on its icon to open it. Two windows will appear. You will first use the topmost one pictured below to log on to an FTP server.
Follow the steps below to fill in the appropriate information in the Open Connection window. Yours may look different.

Enter the name of the host to which you want to connect. The host can be a domain name or an IP address (the numerical equivalent of a domain name). The host name should be supplied in the access information for a resource. It usually has 3 or 4 parts separated by periods, for example, ftp.yourdomain.com.
Enter your user ID. If you are connecting to a site that allows anonymous FTP connections, type anonymous. If you are connecting to a host on which you have an account, enter your user ID for that account.
If you used anonymous as your user ID, it is polite practice to enter your e-mail address in the Password field, although it usually is not required. If you are connecting to a host on which you have an account, enter your password for that account.
This is optional. If you know it, enter the directory or pathname for the information you want. An announcement often supplies this information. It looks like a string of words separated by slashes, for example, public_html/images/. You can change directories later, regardless of where you start. If you do not supply a directory path, you will be placed in a default directory defined for that server (often for a host on which you have an account, the default is your own directory).
When you are finished, click the OK button. A new window will appear and your cursor will turn into a running dog while the connection is made.
When your computer is connected to the remote host, Fetch will display a screen showing a list of files and folders in the directory you've chosen. Folder icons in the scroll window represent directories, and page icons represent files.

Fetch displays directories roughly the same way that the Macintosh system displays folders. Once you are connected the current directory is displayed as the title of a pop-up menu above the scroll list. You can change directory by clicking twice on the name of a directory in the scroll list. To return to a previous directory, click and hold on the pop-up menu above the scroll list and highlight the directory you want.
Once you find the file you wish to transfer, click once on its filename in the scroll list to select it.
After selecting the desired file, make sure the Automatic option is selected, then click the Get File button. Fetch will prompt you for a place to store the file.

I recommend you place it on the desktop or on your own floppy disk. You may also rename it if you wish. Click the Save button.
When you are finished, close your connection to the FTP server by clicking on the Close Connection button on the connection window. Then quit the Fetch program by choosing Quit from the File menu.
